Relative pronouns in Englisch sind
Fürwörter (Pronomen), die einen Relativsatz einleiten.
Relativsätze geben zusätzliche Information über ein Nomen
im Hauptsatz.
Für Personen: WHO
The boy, who is riding a bike, is my neighbour. 🚲
Für Tiere + Dinge: WHICH
The dinosaur, which had short arms, is called T-Rex. 🦖
The phone, which has a cracked screen, still works. 📱💥
THAT wird besonders häufig benutzt nach:
Superlative: THAT
(3. Steigerungsstufe)
(the best, the fastest, the most poisonous...)
The coldest day that I remember was last winter. ❄️ 🥶
Nach Person + Tier: THAT
The girl and the cat that sit on the sofa are watching TV. 👧 🐈
THAT darf nur in bestimmenden Relativsätzen
(defining relative clauses) stehen. → Kein Komma!
Nach folgenden Wörtern: THAT
all, the only, first, last, something, somebody,
anything, anybody, everything, everybody, nothing, nobody

2. Fall Genitiv

Es gibt zwei Arten von Relativsätzen:
1) Defining relative clause (notwendig)
→ keine Kommas!
→ THAT / WHO / WHICH möglich
Der Satz sagt welche Person / welches Ding genau gemeint ist.
The students who study a lot get good grades. 📚 👩🎓
(nicht alle Schüler)
2) Non-defining relative clause (Zusatzinfo)
→ Kommas!
→ NUR WHO / WHICH / WHOSE
→ nie THAT
My brother, who lives in London, is a doctor. 🩺 🇬🇧
(ich habe nur einen Bruder)
